Most of the families are live below the poverty line in the backward Sundarbans. Many households have small ponds in this area. The Fish farming with improved technology can be an alternative source of income, keeping that idea in mind, Fish fingerlings, lime, fish feed are being given with the help of CIFRI. From the statistics of one year, it has been seen that the minimum income of Rs. 30,000/- (thirty thousand) has been earned by farming fish in 10 katha ponds. Our organization is providing all kinds of support to the 2000 poor and destitute SC, ST families in the matter of livelihood.

With the aim of self-reliance of the SHG mothers of poor and destitute Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes communities in Kultali, Pachapara and Choradakatia villages in the remote areas of Sundarbans. The Kultali Milon Tirtha Society in collaboration with CIFRI, Govt. of India has given inputs including training on Ornamental fish farming to the 100 SC/ST poor and destitute women for alternative income. They are self-sufficient in many families today.

Rain Water Harvesting and Land Shapping:

Most of the people are dependent on farming in the backward Sundarbans. Due to geographical variation, it is cultivated only once a year. As a result, the people of Sundarbans have fallen behind economically. Therefore, Kultali Milon Tirtha Society (KMTS) initiated the Sundarbans Dream project with the help of the government. The project began to conserve fresh water and convert farmland from one period to two or more. KMTS excavated 2000 of fresh new tanks in the area of Basanti Block. Farmers get much more than previous.

COCONUT PLANTATION PROGRAMME

Apart from service work, Kultali Milon Tirtha Society and Coconut Development Board jointly organized training in coconut cultivation and advanced technology for the development of the society. For nursery plants 80000 coconut seeds were brought from as far away as Kerala. Coconut seedlings are distributed among the SHG women and willing farmers of Sundarbans free of cost.
